Information Literacy in Business and Finance Jobs — Article by Library Professors Among Top 20 of 2007

Posted by lrath on June 28, 2007

Are you working — or will you work — in the business and finance field? Then you should read an article by Louise Klusek and Jerry Bornstein, members of the Newman Library faculty. Their article explored business and finance job profiles. Findings show how skills and work related activities for business and finance occupations demand information-literate workers. The article has been selected by the American Library Association as one of the top twenty publications of 2007 in the area of information literacy/library instruction. “Information Literacy Skills for Business Careers: Matching Skills to the Workplace” can be found in the Journal of Business & Finance Librarianship, Volume 11, Number 4 (2006): p. 3–21. (This journal is available in the EBSCOhost Electronic Journals Service database.) If off campus, you will be prompted to enter your Baruch username to read the article.

Announcements in the Library – Student Input

Posted by lrath on June 15, 2007

  • Should the library use the PA (public address) system — or speakers — to make announcements about desk and library closings?
  • Would it be helpful or disruptive to hear announcements stating when the Circulation and Reference desks close?
  • Is the library already too loud and disruptive without the announcements? Should students read the library’s website and signs to get service desk hours?
  • Do students need to be reminded of service desk closings because they are often busy studying and are not aware of the time? Are announcements needed because students are not aware that the Circulation and Reference desks close before the library closes?
  • Should the PA system only be used for emergencies?
  • What are your thoughts?
